Cargo-fit planning tool

Portable Fridge Fit Checker

Compare fridge dimensions with installed cargo space, explicit clearances, lid-opening room, mounting hardware, and an optional upright loading opening.

Fit inputs

Compare the installed space, not only the cargo floor.

Enter the narrowest usable measurements, then add only the clearances and mounting hardware required by the exact installation.

Measurement unit
Available installed space

Measure between the closest real obstructions at the final installed position.

in

Usable side-to-side space.

in

Usable front-to-rear space.

in

Vertical room at the installed position.

Fridge exterior dimensions

Use the manufacturer’s overall exterior dimensions, including fixed handles and hinges.

in

Side-to-side exterior measurement.

in

Front-to-rear exterior measurement.

in

Closed exterior height.

Rotation swaps fridge width and depth. It does not guarantee hinge, vent, cable, controls, or drain access.

Installation allowances and mounting hardware Optional advanced inputs

These values stay associated with the vehicle axes even if the fridge is rotated. Leave a value at zero only when no extra space is being planned there.

in

Space between the fridge or slide and the left-side obstruction.

in

Space between the fridge or slide and the right-side obstruction.

in

Vehicle-axis clearance at the front of the installed footprint.

in

Vehicle-axis clearance behind the installed footprint.

in

Closed-lid clearance above the fridge body.

in

Additional depth for the plug, cable bend, and socket access.

in

Vertical room the open lid needs above the closed fridge height.

in

Total width added by mounting hardware.

in

Total depth added by mounting hardware.

in

Total height added beneath the fridge.

Loading opening Optional

This is a conservative upright rectangular check. Enter both measurements or leave both blank.

in

Narrowest clear width through the hatch or door.

in

Narrowest clear upright opening height.

Tilting during loading is not modeled. Trim, hatch angle, wheel wells, seat hardware, and interior curves are not modeled.

Transparent fit logic

How the installed envelope is checked

The checker keeps fridge dimensions, installation allowances, lid room, loading access, and rotation visible. It does not use a hidden vehicle database.

  1. 01

    Build the installed width

Add side clearances and any slide width to the oriented fridge width.

required width = fridge width + left + right + slide
  2. 02

    Build the installed depth

Add front and rear clearances, cable room, and slide depth.

required depth = fridge depth + front + rear + cable + slide
  3. 03

    Check closed and open height

Closed height includes top and slide allowances. Open height also includes the entered lid-opening room.

open height = fridge height + top + slide + lid room
  4. 04

    Calculate margins

Each required dimension is subtracted from the available installed space.

margin = available dimension − required dimension
  5. 05

    Evaluate rotation

When enabled, fridge width and depth swap while vehicle-axis clearances remain attached to their installation sides.

rotated body = depth × width × height
  6. 06

    Check the loading opening separately

The optional opening check uses the upright fridge body only and does not pretend to model tilting or a curved path.

    opening ≥ upright body dimensions

Worked examples

Two installations through the same checker.

These examples are calculated by the same production utility used by the form above.

Example 01

Normal orientation with useful margin

Available space
36 × 25 × 30 in
Fridge body
27 × 16 × 18 in
Installed envelope
29 × 20 × 19 in
Open height
27 in
Selected orientation
Normal

Side, front, rear, cable, top, and lid allowances are all included before the available space is compared.

Fit stateFits in the normal orientation

Tightest margin: 3 in

Example 02

A narrow bay that works only rotated

Available space
20 × 32 × 28 in
Fridge body
27 × 16 × 18 in
Normal envelope
29 × 19 × 19 in
Rotated envelope
18 × 30 × 19 in
Open height
25 in

The normal width exceeds the 20-inch bay. Rotation swaps the fridge body axes, but the installation clearances stay on the vehicle axes.

Fit stateFits only when rotated

Tightest rotated margin: 2 in

Measure the installation

Three checks beyond the cargo floor.

  • Measure the narrowest installed points.Trim, wheel wells, seat hardware, drawers, and tapered panels can reduce usable space above the floor.
  • Add every operating allowance.Ventilation, plugs, cable bends, lid movement, slides, and latches belong in the installed envelope.
  • Trace the loading and service path.A fridge still needs to pass through the opening and leave controls, vents, drains, tie-downs, and power connections accessible.

Measurement check

Common cargo-fit mistakes

  • Measuring the vehicle’s widest point.Use the narrowest points at the exact installed height and position.
  • Forgetting the lid path.Closed height alone does not prove that the fridge can open where it sits.
  • Leaving plugs out of the depth.Power connectors and cable bends often need more room than the fridge body.
  • Ignoring a slide or tray.Mounting hardware changes width, depth, height, and access to fasteners.
  • Assuming rotation preserves access.Vents, controls, hinges, cable ports, and drains may face the wrong direction.
  • Treating zero margin as practical clearance.Allow for measurement error, movement, handling, and installation tolerance.

Fit FAQ

What the measurements can prove.

Five practical limits to understand before treating a rectangular fit as an installation plan.

Cargo-fit ruleMeasure the path, position, and operating room.

A body-size match alone does not confirm loading access, ventilation, lid movement, or secure mounting.

01Does a passing result guarantee vehicle compatibility?

No. It confirms only the rectangular measurements and allowances entered. Interior curves, hardware, fastening, access, and product instructions still need to be checked.

02Why are clearances zero by default?

The checker does not invent a universal ventilation allowance. Enter the values specified for the exact fridge, cable connection, and installation.

03What changes when the fridge is rotated?

Fridge width and depth swap. Vehicle-axis clearances do not. Rotation also does not prove that vents, hinges, controls, cable ports, or drains remain accessible.

04Does the opening check include ventilation clearance?

No. It compares the upright fridge body with the opening. Installation clearances apply after the fridge reaches its final position.

05Can I load the fridge diagonally?

Possibly, but this tool deliberately does not model tilting or diagonal loading. Reproduce the real loading path with careful measurements before purchase.
